Raees Amrohvi

Raees Amrohvi is a renowned Urdu writer, poet, scholar, and psychoanalyst. He is the elder brother of famous poet Jon Elia. Amrohvi was born in Amroha – India. His real name was Syed Muhammad Mehdi.

Raees Amrohvi is the founder of Raees Academy where a number of great Urdu writers born. He is also known for his style of Qitanigari (Quatrain) written for most circular Jang Newspaper. He was the staunch supporter of Urdu language and criticized the Sindh Assembly act when they tried to replace the Sindhi language against Urdu.

He is such a man of letters who possessed a lot of qualities at the same time. Raees Amrohvi was assassinated by a religious group of extremists in 1988.
